Fool’s Day

Bolondok Napja - Soteria Alapítvány

The Soteria Foundation has organized a marching yesterday in the downtown of Budapest. The foundation provides community-based services for people with mental health problems and the aim of the demonstration was to raise the voice against the stigmatization of the media that tendenciously shows people with mental health problems as dangerous murders or other criminals. Statistically there is no relevant difference between the criminality of people with mental health disorders and between the so called “normal” population.

March 15 - National Holiday in Budapest

Just like last year and in the previous years we have visited the March 15th celebration in Budapest yesterday. I just love the (finally) coming spring, the weak sunshine and the smell of fresh air. And of course the hussars with horses are also cool.:)

15th of March – National Holiday

March 15 - National Holiday in Hungary

We celebrate the anniversary of the 1848-49 revolution. This photo was taken at the memorial of Áron Gábor.

Áron Gábor (27 November 1814, Breţcu – 2 July 1849, Chichiş) was a Hungarian artillery officer and national hero of the 1848-49 Hungarian Revolution. Áron Gábor was a revolutionary hero of the Székely people (in Transylvania). He became one of the leaders of Székely-Hungarian forces in Transylvania during the 1848 revolution against the Austrian Empire. He achieved fame and notoriety by successfully producing cannon and gunpowder for the Hungarian forces in Transylvania, as well as, leading the resistance in Háromszék County (today roughly Covasna County, Romania) against imperial troops. He was killed in action in July 1849 while fighting against the Tsarist invading forces.

Demonstration

Demonstration

NGOs are demonstrating against the enormous paperwork and hostile attitude of the authorities distributing the European Union sources in Hungary. Its a common joke among Hungarian non-governmental organizations providing social or health services: “I have a bad news! We won an EU grant!”

Today our guest photographer is Nora. She has attended the Élő Duna Fesztivál (Living Danube Festival) yesterday.

A new environmental project was implemented in Budapest creating a new Central Wastewater Treatment Plant.  The project was financed mainly by the Europen Union and the festival is related to this achievement.

The Gödör Klub is still very popular in Budapest. Its right in the downtown, a perfect location for the youth to hang out. I like the atmosphere there. See our previous posts on Gödör klub:
