Breathtaking views on Buda castle

Castle Hill Details in Budapest

Like a fairytale location, there are breathtaking views awaiting you right on the top over the city. It is rather impressive as you can view from all directions. The climb from Gellert Hotel is quite steep but it offers fabulous views. Enjoy a good stroll and the great history. The nearby areas to explore is the central market hall, parliament building and Danube river. Getting up there by Funicular Railway is possible, if you do not want to walk up. The other viewing spot is Citadella.

Turul on Buda Castle

Turul

At 6m high on the north side of the Buda Castle, you can see this bronze Turul, the mythological bird similar to eagle and falcon. It has wide open wings, and on its talons (claws) is a sword. It is perched on a pillar of the neo-Baroque railing, overlooking the Danube. Turul represents god’s power and will. It was seen as ancestor of Attila based on the legends and folklore. Turul is also a symbol of the Huns, a symbol of strength, power and nobility. Do you know, there are about 195 Turul statues in Hungary. The larger one in Tatabanya has an expanded wingspan of 15 meters!
