Today we had a large demonstration in Budapest against the raising anti-semitism in Hungary. You can read more about the background here:

These iron shoes are on the Danube Promenade right at the Parliament Building. It is a memorial to the Budapest Jews who fell victim to the Arrow Cross militiamen in Budapest and depicts their shoes left behind on the bank when they fell into the river after having been shot during World War II.

  1. As you so rightly say this story should be remembered. This is an episode of the the long history of Hungary that should perhaps be more widely known. “Always remember, that the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

    I disagree with the observation that antisemitism is rising in Hungary. Normal Hungarian people have never been against Jewish people, they always have been living in peace together. Of course there were unfortunately terrible sins against them, which we never should forget.
