Winter’s Special Protection | Mihály Vörösmarty

Winter Protection of Carrara marble statue of Mihály Vörösmarty

Downtown Pest. Here’s where the Carrara marble statue of Mihály Vörösmarty can be found. If you are a tourist visiting during this time, you see it only in this manner. Just because in Winter, this statue is protected in this ‘bubble-like’ special protective material.

Ede Kallós and architect Ede Telcs had their work made from Haraszt quarry limestone blocks. Mihály Vörösmarty is surrounded by figures representing all classes of society: worker with his wife and small son, man wearing traditional ceremonial clothes, woman with a baby in her arms, schoolboy, old peasant, farmer and peasant girl, gentlewoman and grown-up student, shepherd boy, and old woman with her grandchild. Mai Mano Cafe

DSC01869

I like the colours of this cafe called ‘Mai Mano‘ which is right opposite Moulin Rouge in sixth’s district of Budapest (Nagymező Street 20). Mai Mano was the emperor’s photographer at the turn of the century. Near it is a photo exhibition hall. If you like art nouveau and arabesque motifs, you need to check the inside of this cafe.

Along the Andrássy ut.

This is one of the unit that is lined with the spectacular Neo-renaissance mansions and townhouses featuring fine facades and interiors, which was recognised as a World Heritage Site in 2002. In some walking distance, you can see the Franz Liszt square which is a square with the Academy of Music and a multitude of cafés.

First Snow in Budapest 2010

The first snow has arrived in Budapest today. It is combined with rain and altogether it was quite heavy for the first hour. It is the time of the year to stay warm, other than ensuring your winter coat is warm enough, a hot ginger tea or mulled wine helps greatly…

Sült kolbász?

Somehow the secret of the Hungarian Sült Kolbász is still a mystery.
It’s one of the most sinful food items here but I think a lot of people really love it. We love it for the winter, with the homemade bread and some mustard or tomato sauce. What about you?

Christmas Fair, Christmas Festival in Budapest

Smelled the wonderful aroma of the fresh bread ‘lángos’ that is baked in traditional “Töki” clay oven or these sinful looking but very delicious skewed meat. Keep your body warm by sipping hot Mulled Wine served in special ‘Budapest designed’ mug which you can take home. That just summarizes the Christmas festivity mood here in Budapest, but you really must experience the mood of it!

Franz Liszt | Liszt Ferenc or Ferencz Liszt

The winter is arriving soon and there are still some colourful sights from the remaining of the Autumn right ‘in front’ of Liszt Ferenc. He was an important and influential composer, who contributed significantly to the modern development of the art, and a benefactor to other composers and performers, notably Richard Wagner, Hector Berlioz, Camille Saint-Saëns, Edvard Grieg and Alexander Borodin.

What’s most amazing: He left behind an extensive and diverse body of work, in which he influenced his forward-looking contemporaries and anticipated some 20th-century ideas and trends. He invented the symphonic poem, developing the concept of thematic transformation as part of his experiments in musical form and making radical departures in harmony.

Who is the most influential person in your city? What kind of influences does he/she has?
