Contemporary | Luwig Museum Budapest

I (Zannnie) was at the Luwig Museum and I saw this ongoing exhibition on Level 3 about Unmistakable Sentences. The Collection Revisited. Generally, I kind of like it as it focuses on the destiny of social and artistic utopias, the functioning of cultural memory, the borders of creativity and the various usages of urban public space. The Pleasure of Light: György Kepes and Frank J. Malina was on Level 1, some displays were quite disturbing.

I’ve also updated our ‘About Us‘ page(s), because my dear husband prefers it this way :) Do give us your comments! :)

Raoul Wallenberg

Budapest named Wallenberg as an honorary citizen in 2003. There is a Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Park, which commemorates those who saved many of the city’s Jews from deportation to extermination camps, and the building that housed the Swedish Embassy in 1945.

Raoul Wallenberg (1912) was a Swedish humanitarian who worked in Budapest, Hungary, during World War II to rescue Jews from the Holocaust. Between July and December 1944, he issued protective passports and housed Jews in buildings established as Swedish territory, saving tens of thousands of lives.

Sleeping beauty’s castle

The Sleeping Beauty's castle

I wrote about this building before. It used to be the headquarter of the Hungarian Postal Service but they have sold it in 2009. Now I have no idea what is going on there. A real estate group have bought it and nobody knows what do they want to do with it.

Church of Krisztinaváros

Church in Budapest

Krisztinaváros is a neighbourhood in central Budapest, situated just west of Castle Hill, north of Tabán. See the church on a photo from 1883 here.

Reverse riding in the city

You must be wondering why this man on the bicycle is riding with his arms crossed :)

Well, he caught many eyes watching him because it was car free day when the public is allowed to walk on the main Andrassy ut. and this guy was trying to ride a special bicycle which has a reverse reaction when you turn to the direction, that was why he tried to counter this action by crossing his arms ;)

Spot the Eagle | Szent István körút, Budapest

eagle

Quite hard to miss this in the city. This building is painted blue and this eagle just caught my eyes.  Above the eagle it marked, 1901-1902. If you check this url, you can see the ‘Earth View’ and the entire blue building’s facade :) I like this eagle‘s wings detail, what about you?

Legal graffiti

At Moszkva tér - Budapest

The Moscow square is one of the most untidy and ugly place of Budapest. It is located at the border of districts and local governments plus the Budapest government have been unable to agree about competencies for 20 years. Young artists decided to bring a little color to the grey, ugly square.

Car Free Days in Hungary | Autómentes nap 2010

It is the Car Free Days 2010 in Budapest. This week is an opportunity for the city to promote green technologies such as bio-ethanol fuels and to enter a debate with car manufacturers. We saw this Plug-in Hybrid.

The city also managed to reinstate the lost tradition of the Sunday promenade and to organise the car free day twice during this week from 16 to 22 September 2010, thereby sensibilising citizens to the use of public transport, cycling, walking.
