Underground

Underground

If you see this yellow pole and fence, you are at the underground. The Budapest underground is more than 100 years old and it is not as deep down as the metro.

  1. Juli, the Metro lines 2 and 3 are very deep. You have to go down a few hundred metres in order to board trains in some cases. With Metro line number 1, you walk about 10 feet underground and you are on the platform. If you like you can see a picture of it by going here – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Foldalatti_Andrassy.png – Its really quite interesting though I find at stations such as Moszkva Ter the wait to get down to the trains can be unbearable because it is so far undergound.

  2. Jaj, wow. I’m looking at the proportions in the picture… it looks like the street is only 20 cm thick. I mean, I’ve heard people complain (persze) about thin roads in Hungary, but really. ;)

Is line 1 this underground? I’m very curious about the terminology here.

    Kösz!

  3. Yes. Line 1, also known as M1 is in the picture. The picture is of the Bacjsy -Zszilinski ut stop. There are 3 other lines known as M2, M3, M4.
