Lucas’s Budapest

Going to the lake balaton

Today our guest photographer is Lucas.

Living in the heart of a city, one tends to forget that there is a marvellous world for us to discover at own pace without the hustle and bustle and the bright lights of city life. From Budapest you can easily get to Lake Balaton within 2 hours leaving from Keleti (East station) or Deli (South station) and arrive at one of the picturesque townships along the bank. There is a flat and easy to follow 210 km cycle route which circumferences the lake. where one can sample the local cuisines, wines and swim in local spots just of the cycle route.

  1. Oh yes, I remember the train ride to Lake Balaton well. I went from Budapest to Balaton-Szarszo in 2008. It was roughly 3 hours but it was worth it, except for the fact it was the hottest day of the year and there was no air conditioning aboard the train. I made the mistake one time of taking the train that goes around the lake making ALL THE STOPS. It took me 8 hours to get to Budapest from Balaton-Szarszo.
