Budapest - Margaret bridge

A few weeks ago they have started the reconstruction of the Margaret Bridge. Only trams and for the beginning taxis can cross the bridge which will be closed for more then 1 year.

Thank you for the photo of the bridge Zsolt. I am glad to see its being redone. Having been to Budapest many times I can say that without a doubt the Margaret Bridge needed to be reconstructed. This photo has answered many of my questions but one. Zsolt, are they putting streetcar tracks in on the side of the bridge that is closed? I am curious if this is how they are going to run streetcars over the bridge when they reconstruct the side that is not yet closed.

Richard…I am not sure what you mean by streetcar tracks, but what they are doing is laying rails for the tram. I guess it will be the line for the tramway while they are reconstructing the other side and the middle part. But I am not sure..I am not an expert:)

Sorry about that Zsolt. I meant rails for the Tram. Over here in Canada we call trams streetcars and we call the rails that the ride on tracks. I am sorry for confusing you. Thank you for answering my questions.

I visit Budapest once a year and I am glad to see the bridge getting a renovation. I was there in November 09 and it looks like the trams will be permanently on the side and not down the middle. At least that way you don’t have to use the underpass to get to the tram stop when it ran down the middle.

James…it won’t be like that permanently. At the end the tramway will be back to the middle part.
