Frozen hills

Budapest

A beautiful morning being among the hills of Buda. The trees are still white but already shining in in the sunrise. Hűvösvölgy, Budapest.

Melting ice: Csipp, csepp, Egy csepp, Öt csepp, Meg tíz

Sunshine in Winter

Csipp, csepp, Egy csepp, Öt csepp, Meg tíz, Olvad a jégcsap, Csepereg a víz.
This was the first Hungarian song sang for me by some American students (including Suzanne B) whom I took the Hungarian lessons together. It means
‘Csipp, drop, a drop, five drops, ten. Thaws the icicle, the water drips.’

I just feel this rhymes with the current mood and temperature in Budapest today. It is slightly warmer when the sunshines, but still cold. These are the ice which gathered over the past few days on the trees in our garden. Grounds where the sunshine could be reached are still wet due to the melting ice. Somehow I have mixed feelings about it: it means it will still be slippery for parts that have frozen ice on the ground. So got to be extra careful. While the other side of it is: it’s very beautiful blue skies even it is winter :)

Parliament’s Silhoutte . Winter . Budapest

Budapest

Foggy. And today, my favourite architecture in Budapest looked exactly like this on the photo. Part of living in this city is seeing this beautiful Budapest Parliament in different perspective each time I cross the Margit Hid via tram 4 or tram 6. See how the sun rays are fighting to break through this cold winter of 1 deg C :)

Momom means ‘My Momo’

Momo's footprint in the snowThe cute little footprints in the snow belongs to my Havanese dog, Momo. In Hungarian, if I say ‘Momom‘, it means “My Momo”. He is an affectionate and harmonious pet and we both love him very much. The snow flakes texture today is slightly thicker, so it flows down rather quicker in speed than the light ones. Jocelyn made a comment in one of my recent post, saying that it wasn’t the fluffy type she expected during her stay in Budapest. I hope the next time when she is here again, she gets to see the real thick fluffy snow :D

p.s. a little blue black and swell is near my left wrist now, in anycase, many thanks for the well wishes Jocelyn.

How about a cup of Hot Cocoa and some Banana cake ;)

composition

A hot cup of cocoa and perhaps with a slice of banana cake (or bread as they called it in the US) sounds perfect for an icy morning for today. I hate 0 degrees and worse when it rained the night before. It freezes immediately and the grounds are totally icy and slippery. Unfortunately I slipped and fell. Hurt my left carpel nerve and the wrist bone nearest to my thumb is painful til now. I have been checking online for bruises remedy and it seemed the best is ‘rubbing it out’ :)

Minus Six Degrees Celsius and snowing

Snowing

Today is too cold for minus 6 degrees Celsius, and 80% precipitation and snowing!
Too cold, as even the Danube river is frozen a little in Budapest. However, I love snow when it is snowing (particularly the first two days), when you can see your own footprints behind you:) The slow floating and flowing down of the light snow flakes are so so beautiful to watch, and it has always this special silence and calmness. Do you like when it is snowing?:)

Smog Alert

Budapest

Yesterday we had the smog alert in Budapest. For the first time cars with license plate numbers ending with odd digits were not permitted to be driven on the roads. The new legislation about this is not complete, so the police didnt have the opportunity to impose any penalties on those who were using the car spite of the new regulation. Usually in a day there are about 1,2 million cars are on the roads of Budapest. Due to the smog alert yesterday about 200.000 people left home the car (including me) which I think is not a bad start.

a winter morning

Budapest

Very cold, smoggy morning at the Moscow Square in Buda. Today is the first day in Budapest when the mayor ordered an official smog alarm. If it will be worse they will allow to use cars with certain plate number only.
