Smog Alert

Budapest

Yesterday we had the smog alert in Budapest. For the first time cars with license plate numbers ending with odd digits were not permitted to be driven on the roads. The new legislation about this is not complete, so the police didnt have the opportunity to impose any penalties on those who were using the car spite of the new regulation. Usually in a day there are about 1,2 million cars are on the roads of Budapest. Due to the smog alert yesterday about 200.000 people left home the car (including me) which I think is not a bad start.

  1. Yes, this regulation about ”even number should be used only on even dates of the month and vehicles with odd numbers may only be used on odd dates” sounds an acceptable way for most car owners. Living here, I didn’t realised there is an authority that keep watch on the concentration of airborne dust particles until this news.
