Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library

Szabó Ervin library

The establishment of the Metropolitan Library was accepted by the City’s General Assembly in 1903. The institution was set up by the combination of two special libraries ensuring the material – financial – and staff conditions recorded in the Rules for Operation. The library started to operate in 1904. When it was founded, the stock material – comprised of 33000 volumes taken over from the City Statistical Office – basically included books of social science. There were demographic, statistical, administrative and sociological books. Ervin Szabó (the social scholar), who was the first director of the library, had a significant role in the formation of national sociology. He consistently developed the inherited material to a modern collection of sociology and social sciences. Under his management (control), from 1910, the Metropolitan Library started to be reorganized as an institution of ‘public library’. (source)

The entrance of the Castro Bisztró. I took this photo last sunday, sitting outside with a cool lemonade (I was driving) in the shadow of the entrance and this straight sunshine on the wall impressed me to take a photo. Read more about Castro here.

Nagymező street is the Hungarian Broadway. At least some people like to say so because you can find theatres and restaurants with famous actors, actresses here. The Thália Theatre is one of them with this nice green entrance.

There are not too many bicycle roads in Budapest. Its not like Amsterdam though the movement of cyclists is stronger and stronger. This bicycle road was built like two years ago on the Bajcsy-Zsilinszky street.

Gozsdu courtyard

Gozsdu udvar

The Gozsdu udvar (Gozsdu courtyard or Gojdu courtyard) is a new project about reconstructing the middle part of the city. Especially in the VI.th, VII.th, VIII.th, IXth districts the old colonies became like a slum. Now new luxury apartments and community services are replacing some parts of these areas. Theme day: Metal

15th of March 007-1

For 2008 August, the theme day in the Daily Photo family is about Metal. I took this photo on 15th of March on the Chain Bridge where we celebrated the anniversary of the 1848 revolution. This guy was doing a performance with this old iron press. And as we know, iron is one of the hardest metals.:)
