Hofi Géza

Hofi Géza

Hard to explain for a foreigner who was Géza Hofi. I may say he was one of the best stand up comedian in Hungary…but it would give back almost nothing from him. He was much more then a comedian. He was the hope, the only mouth, the surviving smile for millions in the 70′s and 80′s, during the last years of the communism in Hungary. Its interesting that how English terms doesnt match with our phenomenas. We neversaid stand up comedy about Hofi’s performances (lately its a widely used  term) and we never called the system communism.

Anyway, originally this title of this statue is THEATRE. But since the model was Hofi Géza everybody call it “the Hofi statue”. The sculpture was designed by Géza Stremeny in 2004.

Soviet monument in Budapest

Soviet memorial in Budapest

Right after the system change in 1990 they removed most of the soviet or communist monuments. Statues, sculptures, red stars, posters etc. This monument remained on the Szabadság (liberty) square. Remembering the soviet soldiers that has died during the Budapest battle in 1944. Nowdays there is a lot of tension around this monuments. Rioters tried to destroy it two years ago thats why you can see the fence around it.

chimney-sweeper

Kéményseprő

The logo of the chimney-sweeper service. In Hungary we believe if you see a chimney-sweeper you have to grab one of your buttons on your clothes and you will have luck:) Weird but I follow this:)

Kata’s Budapest

Accident at Moscow square

This photo I got from my colleague, Kata. She sent the comment below:

Unexpected scenery on Moszkva Square on a Friday morning. I guess, this is why it makes sense to listen to the radio and not to any CD while driving… I surely had ample time to take this picture from my car.
