August 19, 2008 - Hofi Géza

Hofi Géza

Hard to explain for a foreigner who was Géza Hofi. I may say he was one of the best stand up comedian in Hungary…but it would give back almost nothing from him. He was much more then a comedian. He was the hope, the only mouth, the surviving smile for millions in the 70’s and 80’s, during the last years of the communism in Hungary. Its interesting that how English terms doesnt match with our phenomenas. We neversaid stand up comedy about Hofi’s performances (lately its a widely used  term) and we never called the system communism.

Anyway, originally this title of this statue is THEATRE. But since the model was Hofi Géza everybody call it “the Hofi statue”. The sculpture was designed by Géza Stremeny in 2004.

Its fascinating how words change but the meanings stay the same. I find this stature very interesting.
