The house of terror

house of Terror

The principle aim of the House of Terror Museum is to document two bloody eras in Hungarian history, the Hungarian Nazi (Arrow Cross) and the 1950′s totalitarian Communist regimes. The building itself is the block that once was the headquarters of the Arrow Cross Party (Nyilaskeresztes Párt) and later of the infamous State Security Police (Államvédelmi Hatóság).

Bud Spencer

Bud Spencer

In my childhood Bud Spencer movies were very popular. I also loved them though nowdays I find them a bit annoying:) But they were innocent products of an innocent age:) I have found this graffiti on the wall of a bufet in Budapest.

Budapest graffiti, Budapest graffiti, Budapest graffiti, Budapest graffiti, Budapest graffiti, Budapest graffiti, Budapest graffiti, Budapest graffiti, Budapest graffiti, Budapest graffiti

Blue Franciscans

Budapest

The top of the Franciscan Church of Pest. The church was built in 1250 in Gothic style and its located to the Ferenciek tere (Franciscan square) quite close to the Elizabeth bridge.

Bomb

Bombjpg

Yesterday an 1000kg II. World War bomb was find in the neighbourhood of the University. There are large contructions and almost every day they find something. The American bomb was so huge that they have closed a bridge, several roads and evacuated all buildings in proximity of 3 km. Even the University where I work was evacuated quite quickly. They even didnt let me to close my own car at the parkplace…I had to walk home.

Thank God nothing wrong happened, they managed to clear the area.

from the roof

Budapest

Being in Budapest its a must to climb the St. Stephen Basilica:) From the roof its a wonderful view to the city from special angle. During the next days I will share with you some photos about the view there.

Spite of the fact that I was born in Budapest, I guess this was the second time that I was there. Its very interesting to see that some places in the city are much closer to each other then I expected.

Budapest Cowboys

Budapest cowboys

In Hungary football is(was?) the most popular sport. The football which is called soccer in the US. The American Football is pretty new in this country, to be honest I am even not familiar with the rules. Budapest cowboys is one of the new Hungarian teams, and last weekend they had a match with Croatians on the Margarete Island. The guys in white dress are the Cowboys, I was more close to the Croatian team. We havent entered the “stadium”, just spent some minutes at the fence. Some British guys (you know those bald British tourists who are always in groups and always drunk?:) were standing beside us and they asked from the blue team:

- Hey guys, where are you from?

One of them answered:

- Croatia!

Suddenly the chor of the British group started to scream:

- Gooo.Croaaatiaaaaaa..Gooooo.!

And it was an excuse to drink more!:)

free way

Budapest

I recognized that in some other countries the street lamps are working in different ways. The sign is obvious everywhere…red=stop, yellow=ready, and green=go. But the way these colors are changing might be different. In Hungary from green it turns into yellow and only then into red. And from red it turns like the yellow “joins” while the red is still on and then both of them disappear and the lamp will be green.

Raiffeisen Bank

Budapest

Banks are usually boring, but when they buy and renovate a wonderful building and even the sunset helps, then they can make a miracle.:)

I took this photo right before the Criticall Mass event on the 20th of April. This policemen crossed the empty Elizabeth bridge in order to close the roads and making sure nobody will disturb the marching bicycles.
