May 16, 2008 - Bomb

Bombjpg

Yesterday an 1000kg II. World War bomb was find in the neighbourhood of the University. There are large contructions and almost every day they find something. The American bomb was so huge that they have closed a bridge, several roads and evacuated all buildings in proximity of 3 km. Even the University where I work was evacuated quite quickly. They even didnt let me to close my own car at the parkplace…I had to walk home.

Thank God nothing wrong happened, they managed to clear the area.

Wow…scary business. I am glad everything turned out ok. Sorry you had to walk home. Good they found it the way they did and it didn’t detinate.

Zsolt:
Unexploded ordnance can be extremely dangerous, and I pray the disposal people can get in and disarm the thing, and have it safely removed. This type thing was very common right after WWII, but is rare today!
Stay safe! Great photo of St Stephan’s yesterday!!
