just a few minutes

Budapest

The transition is just a few minutes. In English they usually call it dusk or gloaming, in Hungarian we say “szürkület” which refers to the grey color. During the summer its usually around 9pm or later, in December this moment arrives around 4pm. Nowdays since we are closing to the spring……ok, la! (Chinese effect in my speech):)  I am optimistic!….so nowdays this dusk comes around 5pm.

heads up!

Budapest

It is worth to walk in the downtown of Budapest with heads up. Not only because you look more proud like that…but you can recognise little details which usually we just ignore or do not recognize:)

Have a nice weekend!

Budapest Electric Works

Budapest

They send out those annoying, ugly yellow bills for electricity from this very pretty building.:) The company itself is very old they were established under the name of General Budapest Electricity Company, Inc. in 1893. In Hungary we use 220V voltage but it was not always like this. Like hundred years ago they used 110V just like in the US nowdays.

New questions on Daily Photo Poll:

I have launched a poll on Daily Photo community. Together with the previous 6 questions now 4 more questions are displayed in the sidebar. My intention is to make a short research on this great community, so I will be very thankful if you take some time answering them (to get the next question just refresh the site!). The questions are mostly relevant to both visitors and DP members alike, but of course answering them is totally voluntary. If you dont see the Daily Photo related questions anymore, just the so called “content polls” of VIZU it means you already answered all the 10 questions.:)

Barb left me a comment that she couldn’t see the poll displayed on my site. Maybe some browsers do not support it, so for any case I listed all the 10 questions in the FORUM, you also can answer them there!

Kossuth Lajos street

Budapest

I like to cross the Elizabeth bridge by car driving from Buda to Pest. The best is when you arrive from the direction of Hegyalja street (you have a chance for it if you arrive to Budapest for example from Vienna by car). Its a breathtaking moment when you suddenly have a sight to the Elizabeth bridge and if there is no traffic jam you can reach quite easily to Pest to the Kossuth Lajos street having amazing buildings like this around. I was born here…but I still enjoy a lot of parts of the city as a newcomer:)

Nostalgic steam engine

Children Railway

This steam engine works at the children’s railway among the hills of Buda. I wrote about the children’s railway before, now I wanna concentrate more to the engine.:) In my childhood when we used to live in Tatabánya my grandmother’s house was quite close to the railway. The town was actually an industrial center famous of coal mines. These old (ok..larger than this) steam engines were pulling the vagons full of coal from the power plant (or to the power plant I dont know):)…I am not sure  because I rather just enoyed to watch those fantastic huge steam engines. You know…at times even industry can be beautiful!

Natasha’s Budapest

Batthyány este

I continue our guest photographer series today. The first for this year is Natasha from Ukraine. She felt in love with Budapest even started a new column on my Hungary Starts Here blog about Budapest in English and in Russian language. It seems enthusiasm is good for artistic talents…just have a look at her photos by clicking on her name above!:)

Transition

Facade

I like creative solutions in the city. I guess this building has reconstructed and they wanted to keep something from the original XIXth Century style.

Budapest snowing

Its not a recent weather report. Last night was no snowing in Budapest though our streets are sill partly covered by snow. I posted this photo now because its a good contrast to the night-shot I have posted three days ago.

creative cover

creative cover

If a building is ugly, the walls are still full of the bullets from the last war, a creative way to cover it is to put a big poster in front it.:) like this one in the Buda Castle area. I just wonder for how many years (decades) will it be like this:)

Pilis

I just need a break. Grey-foggy-snowy photos for the winter only…so I decided to post a picture I took in November to express how much I miss the sunshine:) The blue hill in the background is the Pilis and the photo was taken from the Nagy-Kevély. Some of the amazing hills around Budapest.
