Happy New Year!

French Festival 1951

Today is party time! In Hungary the Christmas is for family…but the New Year Eve, the day of Szilveszter (happy name-day for Sylvester Stallone!):) is for party. We plan to go to the downtown and if we survive you will hear about Zannnie and Zsolt on the theme-day:)

Happy New Year in 2008!:)

Wintercoat

BEST of budapestdailyphoto.com

No, this is not a UFO. And not a huge bubble gum. For the winter they protect the statue like this in the downtown. Actually I wouldnt mind if they would leave it for the summertime, too.:) Looks cool:)

Daily Photo Poll:

I have launched a Poll on Daily Photo community. With the help of VIZU I created polls. Right now you will find altogether 6 questions displayed in the sidebar one by one (to get the next question refresh the site). My intention is to make a short research on this great community so I will be very thankful if you take some time answering them. The questions are mostly relevant to both visitors and DP members alike, but of course answering them is totally voluntary. Soon I will add new questions to the initial 6 ones. Thank you for your cooperation!

m.city – contemporary light art installation

m.city

As I promised yesterday I am here with a post about the new light show in Budapest. This is a different project, its not like the continue of the previous one.  As a contemporary light art installation of Peter Kozma the m.city is visible at the Roosevelt Square on (and around) the building of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. It was terribly cold but I wanted to see it (and to take photos about it) very much.:) More photos and info on the installation you can see here.

Lightevolution

Lightshow

This photo is like one year old. I took it in 2006 I even reported about the event called lightevolution, here last year. It was really an amazing event, I made a short summary of it here. There is a new lightshow in the city again, tomorrow I go there to take some photos, and like this you will be able to make a comparison of both events:)

Christmas is for family

Anna and Shrek

Our family is still very much about the children when it comes to holidays. Especially at Christmas time which is obviously the largest holiday in Hungary. This time really everything stops, stores are closed, moderated transportation and during the family visits a lot of food, drink, fun, presents, greetings. After the twins of my sister arrived the whole apartment became like a playground the table for the dinner is not just a table anymore but a perfect round-about and the best thing to abuse is the Christmas tree.:) I love Christmas:)

second day of Christmas

Tokaji Aszu

The second day of Christmas (25th of December…ok I guess the 24th of December is the holy-evening, and then 25th and 26th are Christmas days) is usually for family visits in Hungary. Waiting for my sister and her babies (so you can guess what will be in the tomorrow’s post):) for example with some good wine (ok the babies can’t drink!).:)

Christmas present

Wave home

The two authors of the www.budapestdailyphoto.com bring you this present for Christmas Day.:) We just find this public screen in the downtown which is actually a live cam belonging to the www.wavehome.eu project. Zannnie and me were standing in front of the camera and since most likely none of you saw us at that moment, I decided to capture the screen and deliver to you the picture like this! (oh yes it was terribly cold in Budapest today…thats why I look like a snowball and Zannnie like an Eskimo on the photo):)
We wish you and your family a Merry Christmas!

The last storm

Christmas fair in the mall

The last weekend before Christmas is usually the most crazy in malls, at markets and fairs. Its almost impossible to find a parkplace, endless lines and the things you checked out a few days ago are sold when you turn back to buy them. Actually posting this photo I had the feeling it could be anywhere:) Honestly…if you dont see on the sidebar its Budapest couldnt be this place in your city, too??

The Sicilian restaurant Millenium da Pippo is the second place I recommend to you when you are in Budapest and you are fed up with goulash, stew, cabbage or with any other heavy Hungarian food.:) I love Italian food, lately i go for pastas more then pizzas and this restaurant is worth to visit if you are also found of Italian cuisine!
