October 7, 2007 - Fűre lépni szabad

Fűre lépni szabad!

Stepping on the grass is ALLOWED!:) Usually its allowed everywhere in Budapest…but this sign is even more inviting like this! And it is worth to step on it…the so called carpet-grass gives you a feeling like being (stepping, sitting, laying) on a persian carpet. I do not really know the secret of it. The grass is very thick its really hard to find the ground under it….if there is any:) Tomorrow I will tell and show more about this new place……..

I like the sign very much, I can imagine peoples heads being turned by that sign. It great when you are activle encouraged to ‘Walk On The Grass’ I bet the small ones love it. I look forward to hearing more about this.

Wow, what a great idea. I’ve never seen or heard of a sign like that in Boston. Most of the signs start with “Don’t…” so of course, no one pays any attention to them; but to actually invite people to walk on the grass is wonderful. I would like to take off my shoes and socks and walk barefoot.

Lucky guys where stepping on grass is allowed…
Also loved your János-Hill series. Last year made some walks there as the residence of the Portuguese Ambassador is quite close to it.
Trying to recover some time, I’m posting on Germany (Koblenz, December 2005) on Blogtrotter. Hope you enjoy. Have a great time!

Normally you will see the opposite: a sign with the words NOT to step into the grass…I think the Hungarians do today much more for the comfort of their people…and that sounds very inviting!

Interesting, I wonder if they are testing this type of grass for public spaces and want to see how it holds up. Were there observers or some method of measuring the usage on the grass … in the US, “do not walk on the grass” signs are common and even more commonly ignored. I posted a photo of a much more positive sign which read “please stay on the sidewalk“. It appears people respond better to a positive request to do something rather than a negative demand to not do something.

So lush and inviting… Once, in Istanbul, a policeman reprimanded us for walking on the grass. He yelled “Problema, problema! No walk!!” while pointing at a sign that supposedly forbid walking on the grass. The sign was in Turkish, of course. :D

If they only added a “Dogs are allowed” sign – I would be happy ;-)

Now, that’s a different sign. I am glad you are invited to enjoy the carpet of grass.
