The Kerepesi Cemetery is one of the most beautiful in Budapest. For this theme day I show you Szefi’s wonderful photo which has the title Au revoir. The word the lady is writing is “a viszontlátásra” which means “good bye” in Hungarian.

You just make the cemetery so mysteriously. I really like it.
I agree that this is a beautiful photo and statue. Thank you so much for telling us that she is writing good-bye on the wall. Is she the monument for a particular grave?
How delightful! The cemetery must be amazing.
That is lovely. I wouldn’t mind resting there! ;)
superbe, l’athmosphere de cette photo (et de cette statue)
superb, the athmosphere of this photograph (and of this statue)
What an amazing photograph. Belongs in a gallery.
Very beautiful photo. Is it placed on a tomb?
It really is quite beautiful!
The colours and lighting makes it so pleasing to the eye.
Just beautiful and the layout you create makes it even more prettier.
Zsolt, this photo is superb! What a beautiful subject you’ve captured. One of my very faves among those in our theme day today! Kudos!

Hi all,
I took this photo back in October 2006. It was on display in the Kerepesi Funerary Museum at my first ever individual photo exhibition this summer, together with 18 other photos I took at the cemetery. This one is one of the more popular :) thank you all so much for viewing and commenting.

Szefi, this is a beautiful photo with interesting colors and textures.
Hauntingly beautiful. And well photographed.
Amazing picture. I like it very much
Trully beautiful! This is my favourite picture for this theme day.
Beautiful! Love the colors.
The anti-spam word is artistic..that’s what this shot is …artistic. I love the textures, colors an composition. Good job.
Fantastic photo, Shefi – so moving…
I’d love to visit the entire Kerepesi Cemetery one day!
a beautiful photo and an interesting way to say goodbye.
I like those words “au revoir”. It adds a touch of poetry and nostalgy. The green tones are lovely too. I nearly smell the moss! ;)
Wonderful photo. It reminds me of “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.”
I love the illumination and vignettes. Good work Zsolt.
One of the greatest things about the cemetery monument is that you have the power to personalize these memorials no matter how you want it done. Whether you think that the carved monuments are classic or it is more elegant to have the words engraved instead, you can definitely ask them to do so.
There is certainly a huge difference in the first grave markers which were nothing more than boulders placed on top of a grave. Their purpose was to ensure that the deceased would not be able to climb out of their grave in the event that they would come back to life if there was a heavy boulder on top. Yes, this is some very primitive thinking but this is the origination of grave markers, then to headstones, and finally to magnificent outdoor statues that line cemeteries everywhere today.
