Sziget Festival 2007 DAY ONE!

Sziget party goers posing for me

Beyond words. This place is full of FUN! There are over 20 stages for live concerts throughout the entire island in Budapest. Mainly live concerts running concurrently by popular bands and groups! This is a yearly event since 1993, and finally this year I get to experienced being here personally. These guys were really great sport (they posed for me;) so spontaneously) click on this photo to link to my Flickr and you’ll see lots of photos about SZIGET FESTIVAL. On the Main Stage, Manu Chao which is a french group, rocked the entire sziget (sziget also means island) until there were two ‘bursts’ of black out! You can imagine how crowded it was >>I was almost ”crushed” being at the front of the stage where their fans were (lots of French were there too). And since I am so small (Asian) where all the other guys and ladies were mostly Europeans/Americans….but still it was totally FUN!

SZiGET

Here’s video of the Japanese group called Gocoo which I took on Day ONE of the Sziget.

SZIGET FESTIVAL passes for 2009 already on sale!

Photographers in the city

photomakers

Since I run the Budapest Daily photo site, I am more aware of people with cameras in their hands. Maybe because I became one of them:) On the flickr, someone sent a comment to this photo saying that the lady is a professional photographer of the biggest Hungarian newspaper (Népszabadság). So thats why she has such a professional equipment:)

Summer Programmes on Chain Bridge

Someone walked pass, Parliament Building

It’s how amazing this shot turned out on the Chain Bridge. On weekends during the Summer, the Chain Bridge will be closed (for vehicles) and the Hungarian craftsmen and folk artists sell their art work like woodcrafts, handmade soaps etc. Beneath shady parasols of Lanchid, cafés await guests with cooling drinks, Greek Salad (with Feta Cheese) and the delicious Hungarian food that smells so great from steps away (like approx. 20 steps:)) Here you can taste the Hungarian sausage and skewed meat that’s soooo yummy and the Hungarian ‘Pizza’ (Pizza-wanna-be, that’s what i called it haha) ;)
Hungarian 'pizza-wanna-be'Street artists and musicians, musical instrument demonstrations, jugglers and portrait painters can be seen. This above photo one of the picture taken against the historic backdrop. For the more adventurous, there is also modern bicycles for hire at the bridge and or you can come back to listen to a concert or simply enjoy the freedom of the Budapest.
This year, this event is til 12 Aug.

Margit sziget

BEST of budapestdailyphoto.com

Yesterday we were laying in the park on the Margaret Island. A perfect place to hang out in the green. I can handle it only when its maximum 30 celsius and with a slight breeze. And yesterday we had such a wonderful weather for going out. And I was lazy to stand up for photos…that’s why you can enjoy the ”frog’s-perspective” :)

How close can you get?

get up close to the Elizabeth bridge :)

This is how close you can get (in photo) to the Elizabeth Bridge ;) The bridges on the Danube are a ‘must-see’ in Budapest if you are here. Before I was here, I am not so much a ‘bridge-lover’ but my view changed. It’s amazing how these structures can be seeing them ‘live’…I wonder what you think?

Here’s a night view of this bridge:) from another perspective.

Formula 1 in Budapest

Formula1

The moving circus arrived us for this weekend. The Hungarian Grandpix (Magyar Nagydíj) will be organized between the 3rd and 5th of August this year. I am not really a Formula 1 fan but maybe next year if I will have a good ”tele-objective” I will go out there for photos. Otherwise I like it just for preparing everything in front of the TV and falling asleep after the first round because of the monotone noise of the cars. The best background to a good afternoon nap:)

More photos and information on the Hungarian Grand Pix you can find here.

A Gothic Revival architecture example

Parliament House. Budapest, Hungary.

The Gothic Revival was paralleled and supported by medievalism, which had its roots in antiquarian concerns with survivals and curiosities. In English literature, the architectural Gothic Revival and classical Romanticism gave rise to the Gothic novel genre.

If you have been to (any of) the following countries :- Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Russia, United Kingdom, United States. And you have seen another gothic revival architecture example, do share with us :)

Meanwhile, for those of you who hasn’t check out our self-made Budapest Guide, you can click on the link here :) Enjoy!

Budapest Guide

Chainbridge

Today we would like to introduce to you our new website. The Budapest Guide by Zannnie and Zsolt.

Travelling all around the world, I have received lots of help from the respective local people. In 1993, a very nice Holland couple from the Netherlands provided me and my friend accommodation and a lot of assistance in getting around. It was because we didn’t managed to find our Hungarian friends due to an error in the phone number. In 1998, when I was in Switzerland, Michael from Bern helped us to explore that wonderful country. Thanks to Max and his girlfriend for I could see Frankfurt (Germany) much more than just as a simple tourist. In 2005 I was in Indonesia, and without the help of Pody, Cory, Bedu and Peti, I wouldn’t see so many wonderful places in that beautiful country, and last year in China, Jing helped me a lot to explore Shanghai. (you know her from Shanghai Daily Photo):)

So I always had the feeling that one day I will have to give back all the help and support I have got in different countries from the local people. With this inspiration, we created our personal Budapest Guide for you all, dear future visitors of Budapest! As we wrote in the introduction for DP members, it is a must to contact us if you are visiting Budapest, but anyone else is welcome if you have questions or if you need any information, relating to any help which we can assist to your Budapest trip.

The website is a beta version. A starting point where comments, recommendations, ideas are totally welcome. Especially, it would be helpful to know what else you would find helpful on a site like this, (such as which other info you wish we would include for you should you are planning to visit BUDAPEST). We have been working on this site for long..and we just hope you are going to enjoy it!:)

Theme Day : August 2007 ”Typical Hungarian Breakfast”

“Typical breakfast”- not just the food you eat personally, but it could be in a restaurant or grocery store, the “occasion” of breakfast (the people eating it, an interesting location where people eat breakfast) – ie think creatively about it.

Breakfast

It was good that this Theme day is about the breakfast of your city and since I am here in Budapest, I learnt about the Hungarian’s Typical breakfast. First you see a glass of milk with some pastries. The rounded ones are called ”Csiga” (pronounced as ‘chi-ga’) which means SNAIL :) The only difference is the flavour and Zsolt always prefers the one on the right which is chocolate flavour.
Next which looked like a horseshoe, is called ”mákos patkó”. Inside are filled with poppy seeds (called ‘mák’ in Hungarian). Here in Hungary, poppy seeds are not forbidden
unlike some countries, it is used widely in several Hungarian cakes and dishes:)

Is POPPY seeds also FORBIDDEN in your city (country)? :)

One more day! And the surprise is coming!:)
