Pihe’s Budapest

Today I have a special guest again. Enjoy Pihe‘s wonderful photo and I warmly recommend you to visit his Flickr photostream. It is worth!

where the snail lives

For the record: this is the “staff-only” staircase of the Museum of Etnology in Budapest. I’ve been there on a training during the closing hours and I fell behind to take this shot — it was quite adventurous, for the guard spotted me on the other floor while I was balancing on the bar to get the composition — I’ve been asked what I’m doing there with a camera in my hands… It wasn’t that usual “nice” situation.

Have a look at my previous guest-photos:

Chainbridge volume 2

chainbridge 1801

I have been running this site for more then 9 months and I never posted any close ups about the chain bridge if I remember well. It was intentional, I think the chainbridge is the most characteristic, most touristic feature of Budapest right in the middle of the downtown. The 0 kilometerstone is at the head of the bridge on the Buda side.

But now maybe here is the time to show you this nice old bridge which is really beautiful.

The Castle of Vajdahunyad.

Vajdahunyad Castle, or Vajdahunyad vára, is a castle in City Park, that was built between 1896 and 1908, designed by Ignác Alpár. It is a copy in part of a castle in Transylvania, Romania, that is also called Vajdahunyad, though it is also a display of different architectural styles.

Originally it was made from cardboard and wood for the millennial exhibition in 1896 but it became so popular that it was rebuilt from stone and brick.

Today it houses the Agricultural Museum. Which to be honest I think its not the best idea for a great building like this.:)

On the phone

On the phone

These indian guys have been performing on the streets of Budapest for many years. Before they rather had that south-american design but lately I can see them dressed like north american indians. I guess they are originally from Peru or something like that but most of them has been living here for long.

Everyone has a place among us

everyone has place among us

The Kézenfogva Foundation (Hand in Hand Foundation) has started a new campaign on the 1st of May which will last until October. Its title is “Fogadd el, fogadj el!” (Accept it, accept me!) and within the framework of the campaign they are going to tour all around the country with this truck delivering their messages:

“Our firm belief is that an ideal society should be inclusive, where people with intellectual and multiple disabilities are equivalent members of society in every segment of social life. They live amongst non-disabled people, they are free to play, learn, work and they have the same rights as others. In this world, they are known and accepted as partners by the non-disabled. Hand in Hand Foundation devotes its capacity and sources to create a society free of exclusion.”

Májusfa

May1 0281

This photo I took yesterday on the Majális (thats how we call the events on 1st of May) on the Hero Square! The tree is the Májusfa (Maytree) which has a tradition in villages. If a guy likes a girl he raises a tree like this in front of the house of the lady (usually at the fence) during the night or very early morning. Mostly he manage to raise it with his friends.

They dont do it in cities anymore, which I dont mind, because I didnt want to find a forest in front of our apartment in the morning when I used to live with my mom and with my sister:)

Theme Day: City exchange

From Meg

Theme Day again in the DP family:) This is the 9th Theme Day I participate in and I guess this was the most difficult until now. The instruction sounded like this:

“This month the theme day is a bit odd: post a photo of a city other than yours. The idea is not to post a photo of you last vacation in Venice of Mumbay(!), but to show something in your city that could make the visitors think they are on the wrong blog! Good luck!”

I made a deal with Meg (Nelson) to make my visitors think they are on the wrong blog. So she sent me a photo from Nelson saying HI to Budapest and to all of you in the way you see on the photo.

Or maybe Zsolt is just teasing you and he made a photo pretending Nelson, making you feel that you are on the wrong blog?:)

What do you think?
