Inter-Europa Bank

IMG_2924

This doesn’t looked like a bank to me, but it is! The Inter-Europa Bank.

Somehow these buildings have a very unique appeal, Click to see the large photo here , the colours and the dim lightings within:) And this is the Bank Zsolt uses…so pls do not rob this bank :)

Cruiser

Balkony

A new building at the Danube. To me it looks a little bit like a huge cruiser ship from behind.:) What you think?

Egy új lakóépület a Dunánál. Kicsit olyan, mintha egy óceánjáró lenne hátulról.:) Nem?

watched by frogs

frogs

Yesterday morning in the morning traffic jam I stopped beside this red VW Golf at the lamp. Looking to the left I recognized his frogs starring at him. I have no idea what for.:) But I can imagine how they jump into his lap when he suddenly push the break:)

Tegnap a reggeli dugóban emellett a vörös Golf mellett álltam a lámpánál. Ahogy balra néztem észrevettem a békáit, ahogy őt nézik vezetés közben.

Sport Arena

Budapest Aréna

It looks like an UFO…but actually its the Budapest Arena. Its quite new because the old one was burned down in a fire at Christmas a couple of years ago. Mostly it holds the large concerts and sport events. But anyway..its an UFO:)

Proverbs

Maybe you remember some months ago I ran a game collecting proverbs. You shared with me quite a lot and some time ago Denton encouraged me to create a website with them. Now I had some time to deal with it and here you can see the result:

www.dpproverbs.blogspot.com

I selected the proverbs by the country of the contributors (and not by the ethimological origin of the proverbs) and I spent some time with linking to your sites with thumbnails. Just feel free to share with me more proverbs in the comments there or here and I will add them with your links to the site:) Any ideas and suggestions are more then welcomed!

Flower market

flower market

Yesterday I went to a market (or rather exhibition) where they sold plants and flowers. I went there to buy a new plant for my apartment hoping that this time I wont kill it:) If you are curious of my new “victim” have a look here.

Green parkplace

Parkplace

They keep the parkplaces green at the University campus like this. And yesterday when I arrived there I realized this golden carpet.:)

fake ruins

Nemzeti

This is also a little element you can recognise at the national theater only if you get closer. Like a fake greek ruin laying at the new building. Not too abstract idea but I find it attractive.

The ”Church” View from the window…

IMG_2772

This church has a very special air around it. It is one of the views by looking out from this >> window (click here to view) which I’ve posted a while ago. There are three different views, but this one has the most detailings…and I like very much.

in the mirror

In the mirror

Let’s continue our excursion around the National Theater. The next building is the Palace of Art with these huge windows so the theater can see herself (a theater is a she..isn’t it?) every day in the mirror. She is still young…and you know how the young ladies are!!!:) By the way today we are celebrating the day of Poetry in Hungary. On the birthday of Attila József who is my favorite Hungarian poet (beside János Pilinszky). One of his poems in English:

MAMA
I’ve thought one week of Mama only.
Upon her hips she bore, ungainly,
A clothes-basket; she’d climb the stairway
Up to the drying attic’s airway.
Then, for I was an honest fellow,
How I would shriek and stamp and bellow!
That swollen laundry needs no mother.
Take me, and leave it to another.
But still she drudged so quietly,
Nor scolded me nor looked upon me,
And the hung clothes would glow and billow
High up above, with swoop and wallow.
It’s too late now to still my bother;
What a giant was my mother –
Over the sky her grey hair flutters,
Her bluing tints the heaven’s waters.

Zsolt day

Easter morning

Every day I recognize new things in my garden. More green, more colorful and more sunny. To be honest, during the Winter, waking up is a torture. But during the Summer and especially during the Spring every morning is like a present:)

Hey today is Zsolt’s day in Hungary…just when I set the date I realized – 10th of April:) So happy Zsolt day to every ‘Zsolt’ especially to the ”Zsolt(s)” I know…..:)

Dévényi Zsolt

Frankó Zsolt

Hadnagy Zsolt

Hortobágyi Zsolt

Kovács Zsolt

Vörös Zsolt

:)

Mától magyarul is írok.

Easter in Hungary

Hímes tojás

The photo I got from here.

Its amazing to me that there are so many and so different traditions around Easter country by country. Here you can read about the Hungarian traditions and on the photo you can see a “Hímestojás” (the painted egg) which is mentioned in the text.

“Easter Monday (Dousing Day, Water Plunge Monday) Locsolkodás is the main reason for which eggs are decorated in Hungary. This day provides for plenty of mischief. Boys surprise the girls by dousing them thor-oughly with buckets or bottles of water all the while reciting a little rhyme: Good day, good day, my lily, I water you to keep you from wither-ing, or Water for your health, water for your home, water for your land, here’s water, water! Don’t shriek and cry and run away: It’s good for you on Dyngus day. Formerly this practice was much rougher, for young men literally dragged girls to ponds, wells or streams at dawn and threw them in. It was expected that the girls accept this all good-naturedly and reward their tormentors with decorated eggs, bread and a glass of brandy/wine – or all three. The dousing was supposed to make of them good future wives with many children.

Hungarian girls, obliged to color twenty or even thirty eggs for a special boyfriend, knew that he might be given many more eggs by several different sweethearts. The lucky recipient would put them all away for several weeks and then get them out again to have another look: the girl whose egg had lost most color was pining for him.

Mostly every village had its own egg-decorating artist (íróaszszony = writing woman), an old woman who had done the work all her life. From her the HÍMESTOJÁS could be obtained by those who were not very skilled.”
