Műcsarnok

Műcsarnok

This building is the Műcsarnok. I cant translate it to English properly…in German they call it Kunsthalle. Műcsarnok is mostly for modern art while the Museum of Final art just right on the other side of the Hero Square is mostly for classical artworks.  Here you can check their official website.

Overlooking the Slovak bank of the Danube (Part II. Right)

Overlooking the Slovak bank of the Duna

This was the right, the view from the Esztergom side, overlooking the Slovak bank of the Duna. I really dun mind living beside the Danube River (Duna) in one of those small houses from this view;) I imagined the breeze so cooling and never-ending simple pleasure, just living near to the Duna…

Szent István

Day of Attila in Hungary. Everyone knows Attila the Hun. Actually this name was not his original name, nobody knows how Huns used to call him (and Huns have nothing to do with Hungarians even if in Western Europe, they gave this name to our nation). Attila is a Gothic name which comes from the word atta – father.
St Stephan

Nameday of a historical person and a post about a historical person, too:) This is Szent István the first king of Hungary. His original name was Vajk before being Christian. In 1001, he got his crown from the Pope II. Sylvester and he lead Hungarians into the Christian Europe. One of his orders was about building churches, at least one in every 10 villages and he established a state based on kingdom and feudalism.

My father’s name is István too…but the pope doesnt want to send him a crown. What a pity…I would be a prince:)

Overlooking the Slovak bank of the Danube (Part I. Left)

the mini-crossIncidentally while I was looking through the series of photos taken at the Esztergom, I found on the jpeg thumbnail preview of this photo a small ‘cross’ that seemed to be the moment when I recalled ‘Constantine’s Vision of the Cross’ before he was to fight Maxentius.

the mini-cross

I’m not a Christian but at least it was what I’ve imagined;) that he could have possibly seen in the AD 312.

This photo was the left view from the Esztergom side, overlooking the Slovak bank of the Duna. In the next post on the 08.01.07, I shall show you the ‘RIGHT’;)

if you go to the church by ship

Day of Simon in Hungary. This name comes from the Hebrew Simeon which means: being listened.
for ships

If you visit this church by ship I guess better to park somewhere else because If I understand well this sign wanna say to us: no parking for ships in the next 100 m. The father of my grandfather was a sailor. This post is a tribute to him!:)

Erzsébet híd – Elisabeth Bridge;)

Marc15 210

This is on Pest side where this photo of the Erzsébet híd – Elisabeth Bridge:) was taken. It was very very cold in the night here, not many people were out at night. But the night scene with all these warm lightings are really beautiful:) Do you know why it is called ‘Elisabeth Bridge‘?
It is because Queen Elisabeth who was a popular queen and empress of Austria-Hungary was tragically assassinated and hence this bridge was named after her.

Paperboat

Day of Benjámin in Hungary. Again a name from the Bible. It means “the son of Luck”.
paperboatI posted about this strange paperboat months ago here. That time it had different colors, different advertisements on it but its surely the same boat. And now I caught him sleeping in the port near to the Batthyany square in Buda. A foggy, cold day so sleeping was a good choice.:)

Visegrád Panoptikum

Visegrád Panoptikum

Visegrád Panoptikum means ‘wax museum’ and this wax figurine of a messenger in the historian days is one with the best details. You can see in his ‘eyes’, the emotions and expressions he carries with him of that moment blowing that instrument that is quite long.
