new heros

Day of Teofil in Hungary. This name comes from the Greek and means “the man who likes God”

Heros

Hero Square. Ancient Gods are fighting in those carriages, and the 7 tribe-leaders of the Hungarians are stoned in the moment when they explored our new home.

And what are the “little boys” doing? Maybe they are talking about the new PS3 console..or discussing how to get their first girlfriend.:) And you know if some “big boys” lately would rather deal with similar issues instead of their “divine wars” I would be more satisfied. I guess we need new type of heros…who are more like these little boys under the statues of the ancestors.

Umbrella Ladies of Óbuda

Umbrella Ladies
Varga Imrea created this statue-group in 1986 with the title “People Waiting” (in Hungarian it is “Várakozók” ) I rather like to call them the ‘Umbrella Ladies’:) And seriously, if you search ‘umbrella’ or ‘Obuda’, you can find images of these ladies surrounded in different colours of flowers depending on the different seasons with information better than ‘people waiting’;) it is this famous somehow.

So this was found in Óbuda (Old Buda), it is the oldest part of Budapest situated on the right bank of the Danube. The District III. which lies on the ruins of the huge, ancient military camp of Roman legionaries called Acquincum, the northernmost frontier of the Roman Empire in continental Europe. Consequently, several amphitheatres and artifacts have been unearthed here. Óbuda was inhabited mostly by german-speaking Swabian farmers. I didn’t see its village-like atmosphere on this day, becos it was totally foggy when I was there. Plus I tried many different angles and perspectives to take all four ladies (it was a very interesting process) but somehow I am not satisfied with the result on the photos. Hence, I made a video for all of you and now you can experience how it was like to be beside ‘her’ or rather these ‘Four Umbrella Ladies’:) See all the four ladies here :)

A previous post which I’ve blogged near these ‘ladies’ is the ”Varoshaza”

”Jamie Olivier Show”

Day of Auguszta in Hungary. Its the female version of the Latin Augustus.

Bundáskenyér

I can’t really cook but I made a local ‘Jamie Olivier Show’ for Zannnie.:) I cooked for her Bundáskenyér, which in English may sounds like: ‘bread in coat’.

Its very simple that’s why its manageable even for me.

First, you slice the bread (white bread)

You let the slices “swim” in the milk for a few seconds. Let the bread “pick up” the milk.

Then the wet bread gets a white coat from flour. Entirely covered with flour.

Then break some eggs, whisk it with a fork and cover the white coated bread with the eggs.

Meanwhile I hope the oil is heated in a frying pan…because you have to put it there for about 1 minute to fry it.

The result is what you can see on this photo…and here.

Heavy food…so its very Hungarian…but very tasty. Bon appetite!

Evening Stroll

Architecture in evening

Once a while, we will stroll along streets like this. With wonderful architectures here, I was even more distracted and not even noticing the designer’s apparel :p Do you like the detailings on this building?

Anonymus

Day of Etelka in Hungary. This name was created by a writer called Dugonics András.
Best of www.budapestdailyphoto.com

Anonymus was a “notarius” (history writer) in the XIIth Century in Hungary. Nobody knows who he was…but he wrote the first and most comprehensive book about the arrival of Hungarians to this area.

This statue is always mysterious to me. Looking into his “face” I feel like being lost in the history.

Minus Two Degree Celsius + Foggy

IMG_3921It feels like in a dream – but we’ve already woke up and it was past 9am in the morning. This was exactly how it looked like in the morning…I took this photo and the visibility really shows how foggy it was. Very dreamy.

With the cold wind blowing on my face, fingers almost frozen, I walked around this area holding the camera. After a short while, it has this ‘sleep now sleep…’ hypnotizing effect sinking into me when I boarded onto the tram, is it probably because I came from ‘a place so near the EQUATOR’?
Or is it the same for a Budapesti ?

Clocks

Day of Szilárd in Hungary. It means constant, persistant.
clocks

We never know when our time is coming. Church and clock together always reminds me to Ingmar Bergman’s movie. When the Death arrives to the knight to take him. He asks for more time…and the Death answers:

- you all say the same.

The knight offers to play chess…and the game starts.

Its a great movie. Does anyone remember its title?

Rose in ‘dér’

Rose in 'dér'It starts to precipitate this morning as the dew became frozen on the leaves. And this Rose is in the yard outside. I learnt that this is called ‘dér’ in hungarian, pronounced as ‘there’. It looked something like snow but it wasn’t exactly. In a few days, it will start to snow, but then again, we never know…

Ready to run?

Day of Gabriella in Hungary. Its the female version of Gábor which means: the man of God!
Ready to run?

There are some moments when the cars are still standing at the lamps. You have a few seconds to cross the road….its like a race. I always run like this…life is exciting:)

Have a nice day for you all!

Városháza

Városháza

The funeral of football’s great Ferenc Puskás was held at Budapest’s Saint Stephen Basilica yesterday, and he was laid to rest in the building’s lower church. So the whole atmosphere was rather solemn because the memorial service was aired live on Hungarian Television (MTV), Duna Televízió and M2. It makes me think. This is because only people with great contributions to the country will be given such an honour when one dies. He is such a great man here. Today’s photo is the detailing of ”Városháza” of the III. District in Budapest.

Make a guess, who works here? Hint: Every district has one Városháza.

Ufo landing?

Day of Judit in Hungary. This name comes from the Hebrew. Means woman from Judea.

alliens landed

Do you remember Steven Spielberg’s E.T.? Maybe he is again among us and wanted to go home. And they arrived for him.

I took this photo like two weeks ago near the University in a small park. I wasnt satisfied with its quality but now I found it on my Flickr again and I decided to post it.

I wish you all happy sunday!
